Little Rocki

Yep. This is me - little Rocki in my favorite get-up, as so I'm told. I was a little tomboy through and through. Okay I still am, but I don't dress like that anymore - I don't wear diapers (no Depends jokes Laura! ;)

Before I go on, I planned on blogging yesterday, but due to a major cut in the Cox Cable fiber optic line, we had no Internet service for a very loooooong time. Needless to say when it came back up, many hours later, I was pretty busy elsewhere. Funny how much we depend on Internet now days (again Laura, try to control yourself ;)

So, today I thought I would just share some pictures of me a 'few' years ago. I love looking at the old picture albums - so many emotions from happy to sad are in those books. The black and white photos are so classic, they crack me up sometimes.

As you can tell I've never been much into fashion - I sort of make my own statement. Actually, I sort of look like Boy George here. Hmm, I do remember wearing a dress at this occasion. (Laura -*shakes finger*)

Awe there, see? I clean up nice now don't I? I truly remember the day of this picture. I wasn't much for dresses, but back then all little girls wore dresses, especially in school. In fact, I remember when we were FINally allowed to wear pants to school - I was SO happy. However, no jeans - they had to be a matching pant suit. Anyway, this dress was terribly itchy and I could hardly wait to take it off!

My dad! My buddy ol pal! Handsome little devil isn't he! This was taken at my grandmas house - I loved that front porch! Mom used to tell me that if I kept my hands inside that furry little thing that I would find a surprise inside. I never found anything. I wonder if that was her way of keeping me busy?

Wow - I SO remember this day! We moved from California to Arizona in July (we had lost our home in the big Sylmar quake the previous year, 1971, so guess it was time to move). Yes, we moved in the middle of 110 + degree weather, in 2 big U-Hall trucks pulling our other vehicles & no a/c. My brothers, David and Chris (doesn't he look happy?) rode with dad and we followed with little Laura (yep, that would be my little sis in mom's arms) screaming practically the entire way. Fun times. We lived in the motel for about 2 months before dad found a little house for us - the one on Seldon Lane, Laura.

Well that's it. Just a few memories to share with all my buddies. Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Hugs,

Rocki

Wow! I love looking at our old pics, too. Why would I EVER make a Depends joke about you??? Oh, yeah. Remember my 30th birthday Grim Reaper, I mean, Debi DRESSED as the Grim Reaper OUTSIDE OF MY HOUSE waving cars down???? Yeeahhh. LOL!!!

I love your blog and that pic of all of us with mom is my favorite! Chris looking like a little punk, Dave with his mischievous smile, you with the, "just take the picture, Dad" look and me....ah yes...looking like I always do, an innocent angel! Debi? Hello? Debi...stop laughing!! (*runs and tells Dad*)

Hah! And look at Dad with hair!!

Love you, Sister :-)

Absolutely Precious! I think you favor your mom! Laura...not so much. Are you sure she wasn't left on the door step? hee hee! {just kidding Laura :P}

Great pictures, Rocki. All my pics from a "few" years ago are still with my mom. I've wanted them for a while now, but I always forget to ask her when we're together. Dang it.

Fun post! Thanks for sharing with us. Have a wonderful day and I'm glad you're internet is back!
Hugs,
Ang

What wonderful photos, Rocki! Thanks for sharing them with us!

I, too, remember when they first allowed girls to start wearing pant suits to school--UGH!!! Mine were polyester with really groovy prints! LOL Also, around that time (I think I was in 7th grade) the super low hip huggers became popular. The young girls these days think THEY started that trend! LOL

Any Occasion Boutique, that can be dangerous in the desert considering how many scorpions live under rocks around there! LOL

LOL! You guys all crack me up! Laura, I have NO idea what you're talking about... Grim Reaper? Me? Dress up like THAT? ;)

Hey Ang - thank you, that was very sweet and she was actually found in the cabbage patch - at least that's what our Papa Chuck used to say!

Thanks Jo - oh yes, mine was the good ol polyester as well! Oooh baby, I resemble that remark about hip huggers as well! Plus the bigger the bell the better baby!

I hear you Prim, it's hard to keep up sometimes, that's for sure! Thank you!

Oh my gosh what a wonderful post!! Hey I remember that quake and we were all woken up by it. What a shame you guys lost your house in it. No wonder your mom doesn't look terribly happy in that photo. Ahhh and look at little Laura so sweet and innocent! Loved the trip down memory lane with you Rocki, thanks so much for sharing!!

I remember the polyester days too! Only for me it was polyester jumpsuits! UGHHHH! I used to be a roller skater that took part in competitive dance and figure in the early 70's. My mom made all of our jumpsuits and I hated wearing them! They restricted my movements and made it difficult to "get my groove on" (if you know what I mean)! Rocki has laughed at, I mean has seen some of the pictures! However, I absolutely loved roller skating and had some great fun during those years!

Too bad tomboy Rocki wasn't around at that time! Think of the memories we could have started way back then! Oh well, we're making up for lost time!

Rocki Adams said...

Oh honey... can I can I do a blog of you in your skate jump suit! Please oh pretty please! I'll erase some of the "honey-do's" for this weekend!!! ;)

Laura, bring it on sister! (runs and hides)

Oh wow Sharon, I didn't know you guys were in Cali then?! Yep, our 2 story went to a 1 story right before our eyes! We all made it out in time, but was something you'll never forget!

Thanks for the sweet comments Kari & oh mandie!

Mark (aka Bullwinkle) said...

You wouldn't want to do that honey! Some of your followers would be so repulsed or disgusted that they would turn away from you and never visit your site again!

Besides, we don't need to give Laura any ammunition! Oh, wait, I think she might have already seen them or knows that she can at any time anyway!

Hah!! Oh you HAVE to post the pic of Mark in the jumpsuit! ahhhahhhah!!

Wow, that had to be an experience Rocki. I remember the freeways falling down but didn't remember the damage to houses. I know everyone was thankful because it had happened so early there were very few people on the roads but that didn't help you guys. Yep, born and raised in LA and lived there till '89 so I remember alot of them. Glad I moved.

It's a ruse Rocki - don't listen to him!! If you build it they will come...

Rocki, people will come Rocki. They'll come to your blog for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll visit your blog not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. Just stop by my supply shop on your journey. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and ear wires they lack. .... And they'll look at the photo of Mark in his jumpsuit and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Rocki. ... America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But jumpsuits have marked the time. These jumpsuits: they're a part of our past, Rocki. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Rocki. People will most definitely come.

Oh yes Sharon, we were still in the house as it happened - we were quite near the Veteran's Hospital in Sylmar. It took Dad forever to get up the stairs to get me & my brothers (Laura was in the oven at that time ;) We lost several neighbors who couldn't get out of their house - terrible sites and I remember it like yesterday.

Rocki Adams said...

ROLMAO! Oh Sharon... I am actually laughing tears!!! That's it, I'm posting it darn it! In fact, I told Mark he was a chicken and he said go ahead if you want to. Well, after reading "they will come Rocki", I AM posting it tomorrow morning... stay tuned everyone!

(love you honey :)

Anyone who can use quotes from one of my favorite movies deserves to get what she wants!

All I can say is..."Be afraid! Be VERY afraid!"

Wow, that's absolutely tragic about your neighbors Rocki. Thank heaven you guys all made it out alright. What a memory to have. No wonder Laura likes the sun, she's comfortable in heat.

Mark if Rocki posts that photo... You may regret it. Maybe not today, may not tomorrow but soon and for the rest of your life... but... Rocki, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Yes, Mark, I HAVE seen the pictures and I know where you keep them. (You're toast)

I'm done for now. (rubbing hands together while laughing an ULTIMATE evil laugh.....mwaahaahaa!Bwahahahaha!! MWooooooooooooooohahahaha!!!)

I'm not done yet. Dude, you know you are SO toast if I get a hold of those so you might as well let Debi post them >:-)

Sharon, I am with Debi...I am laughing my buttie off! (Mark, you're toast).

Aaahh, GREAT! Spending a LONG relaxing day at the beach has made me freakin' sensitive!! OK, Mark, will you please allow Debi to post your skating pics? I will see to it that Debi takes some things off your "honey get it the *@#$ done list". OK OK OK!! Maybe it wasn't the beach that made me sensitive! Mark, when you drop the entertainment center off at Dad's, will you PLEASE pick up a desk for me? (You're no longer toast. You have been upgraded to a bagel).

heeheeheehee! God! I love this family!!!

Yes, there will be jumpsuits! However, due to a major increase in sales the past few days (thanks Sharon's lovely blog post) I won't be able to do that today as I need to scan the pics in, etc. So, hold your horses until Friday - *possibly* Monday, we'll see.

So, have an awesome day everyone - I'll be glued to my work bench the rest of the day :)

Rocki can't come out and play right now... she's laying in a heap of exhaustion from her store exploding with sales earlier this week... :)

Hey, does that mean we can play? We can sneak into her room and play with all her stuff and she'll never know! Oh wait, playing in here is like having a video camera in her room... oh well!

It really is wonderful to go down memory lane! You were so cute and I love that puff thing you have to warm your hands in. Your post made me think of being a little girl visiting me my nana. Those were the days! I really enjoyed this post!

Sweets 'N Greets said...

LOL!! That is funny, Sharon! I she wasn't so exhausted but I am tickled pink as to why! Yay Sheeshter!!! ;-)

Sorry Debi, I have to tell her. So, the under the bed thing- Mark and I were in cahoots to give Debi a teeny-tiny scare. I hid under her bed while Mark called her into the bedroom....just when she was in front of me I grabbed her ankle! WHOA!!!! I'm still convinced her head hit the ceiling and they probably evacuated the President in DC thinking her scream was a threat!!! LOL!!!! Awe, yes, it was great! She found a way to get even (I HATE that doll). OOOHH, she KNOWS what I'm talking about :-)

Anonymous said...

Oh you're eeeeviil Laura!!

Doll? What doll? Sounds a potential blog post to me!

Sweets 'N Greets said...

She has a doll that came from our grandmother...I'll just date it back to the dino age (Debi's older than me) (*digging a hole to burry myself before Debi finds me*). It is too creepy...the doll has the white porcelain face (which I normally like) but her eyes just stare at you, focusing on your every move, waiting for the right moment to jump off the shelf and attack me! Mmhhhm. It's a killer doll!!

Rocki Adams said...

I see that there has been some playing around while I've been busy working, eh? ;) I wonder who the culprits are (no names mentioned Laura & Sharon;)

Yes, the video is quite entertaining Sharon ;) Oh and Laura, all I have to say is "United States" - don't make me go there (muah ha ha)

So I woke up this morning (as I do most mornings) and walked into the family room/studio. As I shuffled across the cold floor in my pink fuzzy slippers I wrapped my robe a little tighter and wondered just how cold it was in here. WELL... I scurried over to the window were an adorable new gift sat perched upon the window glass. It read 54 degrees.

Thanks sweet friend! You're the best!! :) Big (warm) hugs!!
