Brave, Bold & Buzzed!

Buzzed Hairstyle
It's February.  My 6 month post-bilateral mastectomy, without reconstruction mark - and all is well.  I was going to have another new tattoo done this month, but due to being nasty sick I have to wait until next month.  Oh and this coming weekend Mark is going to take more photos of my healing process for my mastectomy section of the blog, which I'll post later next week.

"Why the buzz cut Rocki?" As you can tell from my blog my hair has been short for quite some time.   Years ago it it used to be super long, down to my waist. In fact, when I was a kid it was so long that I literally sat on it.  My mom would put it in a bun each morning before school and I would take it down by recess time.  A tom-boy just doesn't look right with a big ol'bun!

My hair is thick and wavy in spots - and unruly because of cowlicks.  When it was long I basically just wore it as is - mainly because I never had the knack of fixing it up.  I'm simple in that respect and love low maintenance hairstyles.  I actually used to dream of having very short hair, but wouldn't dare do it!  Obviously, over the years that started happening as I was cutting it shorter and shorter.

Love my buzz cut!
My long hair was my safety net.  It hid me, so I thought.  I felt vulnerable if I pulled it back into a ponytail. It exposed far too much of me.  I didn't want people to see me so vividly.  I was a very timid person with low self-esteem and lacking confidence.

Then life started to throw stuff at me.  Actually, it started when I was young.  Over the years with all the crap that has been thrown at me left and right, I just couldn't understand why.  I'm a good person and felt I didn't deserve what all I was receiving.  Funny, but since following the Buddhist path for several years now, I understand it as karma.  Then I start thinking...what kind of crappy person was I in my previous lives?! LOL!

Rocki's Brave Bold Buzz!

With each punch and kick that knocked me down, it toughened me up, I fought back and got right back up for the next round (which is why one of my docs years ago tagged me with "Rocky Balboa") - and I continue to do so!  I honestly believe all that crappy bad stuff was meant to happen to make me strong enough to handle what I just went through.  Even with Mark's unconditional love and support, if the breast cancer crap happened years ago, I would be handling this a lot differently - as in hiding in a corner somewhere.

I've wanted to do a buzz cut for years and would joke with Mark about it, but deep down inside I really wanted to do it.  Just didn't have the guts and was afraid what others might think.  So now I did it and absolutely LOVE how it makes me feel!  Without sounding cocky, others can think what they want as that is their right, but it doesn't matter to me.

Here I am today.  Braver than I've EVER been in my life.  More bold than I ever could have imagined.  Still strong enought to deal with life's punches.  Confident with the person I am, as is.  With or without hair - or boobs.

So you still want to know why I buzzed my hair?

Peace & Love,
Rocki

She DID! She did she did I tell ya!

LOL! My sweet sweet friend and sis at heart Sharon (ManaMoon) left a surprise for me this morning. She thought I would REALLY look good with turquoise hair as she knows how much I LOVE that color!

I could barely see through the tears from laughing so hard when I found the little present she left me. I just had to share this very funny photo with everyone! You are just WAY too funny Sis!

Love ya big time!

Did she or didn't she?

Only her hair dresser knows for sure - and Mark, but he's sworn to secrecy.

I've had a couple friends ask how my hair turned out. Well, since I'm not able to take any pictures until this weekend, I'll let you wonder with this picture.

Nawwwwwww! I can't do that to you! I didn't go as drastic as I wanted to, but I did get my hair cut much shorter and a more versatile style that I really like. I can funk it up, go casual (me), spike it, smooth it, bedhead (me) dress it up... love it! Next visit I will go more blond though.

I'll have Mark take pics this weekend and promise I will post them.

Oh and I was tagged as well, but running short on time so hopefully I will do my part later this week.

Happy Bluesday ;)

p.s. no, I did not go blue... but I DID think about pink!

Awe, go fly a kite!

When I was growing up in California we used to fly kites all the time. Our house was at the top of the street, which sloped downwards, and my brother David & I would tie our kites onto our our bikes (the ones with the cool sounding cards clothe pinned to the spokes) and would zoom down the hill. Too much fun! However, my FAVorite place to go kite flying was the beach! I loved it when we went to the beach and dad would put together our kites.

I haven't flown a kite in years, until now. Well, sort of . While sitting at my bench, I came up with a fun idea for an earwire and these are it. They remind me of kites, so I just had to name them "Go Fly A Kite". Funny, but true, "go fly a kite" was one of my mom's favorite sayings. I can't repeat the other one.

That's it for this morning. Just a shameless plug for one of my new creations. Oh! Wait, one other little tidbit. Even though I'm working this morning (which I need to get into the studio, like now), I worked most of the day yesterday so that I could get into the salon for a cut & color. Long overdue, as always. This go around I want something very different. My hair is already short, but too long for me and out of shape. I want something bold, drastic, different, unique... we shall soon see.

Happy Monday,
Rocki

"Cleared for Landing"... or... "My Amazing Hubby"

So you might think by looking at this photo that this is one tough dude who has a funny hairstyle. You’re wrong. Very wrong. Well, not about the hairstyle. This is my best friend, my soulmate, my husband, the love of my life – Mark.

Don’t worry, I won’t go on and on about how wonderful he is, how much he loves me unconditionally, takes care of me, does the dishes (yes, I said dishes), supports me, listens to me, helps me with shows & events… oh gosh, sorry.

He has a good heart, is friend to many, loves animals and they love him. He even loves me knowing that no matter how ‘old’ I get, I’ll never grow old. I’ll always be a kid at heart.

What brought me to blog about this, is my crud has been acting up and makes it hard to do much of anything. Mark doesn’t complain one little bit about having to do practically everything for me during these times. I am so blessed and can't imagine my life without him. It is simply amazing how much this man does for me. Must be my good karma.

Oh, about that hairstyle. I always cut his hair, well, not like that. Anyway, one day when I wasn’t feeling so hot I accidentally grabbed the wrong attachment clip. I always start in the middle. I froze after the first buzz (literally). He laughed about it. I did too, after I got over the shock of it. I wanted a photo to remember this moment as it was so funny. I made him give me a ticked off look as I thought it made for a good photo.

Happiness to all,

Rocki
p.s. Yes, he knows I've posted this - he STILL thinks it is funny!
