FUNNY How Time Flies!

Fried eggs anyone?

It's hard to believe that in 12 days it will be exactly 1 year since my surgery, but more importantly... 1 year of being cancer free!  And we have a fun celebration planned.  Oh and for those that are new, I had a bilateral total mastectomy and sentinel node removal without reconstruction.  In other words, I'm flat as board.  More info in my Breast Cancer Survivor tab.

Before I go on, let me explain the pic above... and my humor for those who don't know me.  We went to Portland in June to visit my boys (awesome visit!).  There was a Goodwill store at the end of the street where we were staying.  I love and shop in second hand stores. Anyway, I spotted pink and when I pulled the shirt off the rack (rack... that's funny!)  I about doubled over with laughter!  Ha ha ha... fried eggs on the front!  Perfect!

There's more to this story.  It just so happened that the next day, Saturday June 29th, while we were enjoying Portland weather, everyone back home in Arizona was dealing with a toasty 119 degrees that day!  The hottest day I experienced was 122 back in 1990.  Fun day - not.  So I wore my pink shirt in honor of everyone frying eggs on the sidewalk that day and posted it on Facebook.

Get your melons!

Yes, I'll be getting back to my 1 year 'cancerversary' plans soon, but since I'm on the humor train...

True story.  I got me a pair of nice melons on sale for .48c at Sprouts!  Mark hasn't had melons in a long time so I figured I would give him a treat.

Ba-dum-bump.

Perfect!  by Tales of a Broken Boobie

I'm guessing some of you may be thinking "OMG, breast cancer is not funny!" or "having your boobs removed is not funny!"...etc.  Trust me, I'm not making fun of breast cancer, any other cancer or anyone dealing with this ugly disease.  I'm also a melanoma survivor, among other life altering crud, so I know many roads of emotions.  Basically with all the crap I have been through in my life I have always used humor.  As cliché as this may sound, humor truly is good medicine.  Maybe not for everyone, but it certainly works for me.  Oh and no I'm not masking anything or hiding my 'true feelings'.  This is just a part of who I am.

Me and Mark - my soul mate - the love of my life - my very best friend - my hubby

Okay now back to our big simple plans for our cancerversary trip.  I say "our" because Mark has been by my side from day one of our close to 20 years together and has never ever flinched.

We are going to our Happy Place - Sedona that is.  Yes, we call it our happy place as that is where we used to go when we needed a break from the craziness of life and to rejuvenate.  In fact, we used to go there a couple times a year, then once a year and then crud/life happened.  We haven't been there for the past couple years or so for a variety of reasons, not just because of breast cancer.  So what better place to celebrate this first year of being cancer-free than beautiful, peaceful, and mesmerizing Sedona!  Our Happy Place.

I'll save the rest of our plans for another post before we go as for now I need to get into the kitchen and uncook our dinner.

I can almost feel the happy vortex vibes now!

Peace,
Rocki

Fibro/CFIDS Barbie's

This is just a brief and humorous look at what it's like living with Fibro (Fibromyalgia) and CFIDS/CFS/ME (Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome) and is not meant to offend anyone living with it, caring for or knowing someone with this crud.  For me, humor is good medicine.

There is no cure for this life altering, life stealing crud, but there is hope and what is referred to as remission or as most say: good days/weeks/months/years.  I know this well because for years I fought my way out of that hell and back to good health and a new life style.  While this crud is no longer a major part of my life, it is far from gone (as I like to wish) and rears its ugly head now and then just to let me know.  I keep my gloves nearby because nothing will ever keep me down!

Mark and I believe that having gone through all that crap is what prepared me for breast cancer.  And while I did not have to go through chemo, I believe that many of those who do may be able to relate to some of my Barbie's. In my next post, I'll go into more of what I did to get healthy again.

In case the above picture is too small to read, I'm including it below as well.  When I wrote this, I didn't care so much for grammar, etc., so please excuse that part.

Active & Aware Barbie

This gal represents all our Fibro/CFIDS Barbie’s.  She is determined to continue to educate herself and others about this invisible illness.  She will continue to fight to stay strong and be positive that she will overcome obstacles and learn coping skills to better live with this illness.  She will provide you hope for the remission times to last longer and be more frequent until one day you will be symptom free!  Please provide her with unconditional love, patience, understanding, and care.   She comes complete with a large supply of Fibro wristbands and information flyers to be passed out to everyone.

Peace and be well,
Rocki

Nasty Happy Rock

Happy Rock

I came across this pic while going through my folders and once again, laughed out loud!

This was taken when we were at the Tucson Gem Show in 2011.  I took several pics of this, um, unusual specimen in various angles and this was the best one showing how, um, well, you get the idea I'm sure.

Call it my twisted humor or simply not sleeping through the night and being up since 3:30 this morning.  In any case, it's still funny.

Ok...maybe it's just me.

Peace,
Rocki

Rocki vs Young Thai Coconut

This beautiful Young Thai Coconut was no match for me (enter Rocky theme music). I won! In an ugly way, but I still won.

I’ve been wanting to add this super delicious, nutritious, full of electrolytes, high in anti-oxidants, vitamins, etc., food to our diet, but have been SCARED to DEATH of opening one. So that night I searched the net and watched several ‘how to’ videos. I then told Mark – YOU open it!

The next day, Saturday, I put my big girl pants on and gave it ago. I got out my cutting board, my large heavy duty chef’s knife, my grandma’s old ice cream scoop and a measuring cup for the water. First Aid kit was within reach.

Cutting way the outer layer was a breeze. I was very pleased about that part.  Now, the top of the actual nut was exposed.  There I stood, looking at it and wondering if I could open it without having to call 911.  But I wanted to taste that water and eat that meat, so I had to continue.

I did as they said in many of the videos - hold it on its’ side, take your big freakin’ knife and whack at it HARD with the bottom end portion of the knife.  In the video it showed them doing this 4 times on a rotation, then you can open it up and get the goods.  Ha!  I showed them!  It only took me about 20 times to whack and mangle the poor nut before I got a itty bitty hole.  I ran into the bathroom (no I wasn’t bleeding, Mark was replacing our faucet) and proudly showed Mark what I had accomplished so far.

Now to get that water.  I pried open enough of the top and poured the water into my measuring cup.  If I hadn’t of spilled some while trying to pry it open, I’m guessing it would have been very close to 2 cups.  But as you can see I actually got just about 1 2/3 cup of yummy coconut water.  Mark and I took a little sip and both agreed: MMMMMMM!  I used the water in green drinks and a recipe dish.

The meat was next. I opened more of the top, finally.  I don’t have a coconut scoop so I used my grandma’s old sturdy ice cream scooper and away I went.  That seemed to work just fine and was easy peasy.  I could hardly wait to taste it as I’ve never had this type of coconut.  AMAZINGLY delicious and smooth!  I used the meat in a couple different recipes and green drinks – nice and creamy!  You can also make coconut noodles with the meat, which I’m going to do with my next one.

So there it is in a nut shell.  I can hardly wait to attack my next one.

Peace,
Rocki

Tator Dude Returns

Tator Dude
This is Tator Dude.  He's a potato.  A Ruby Cresent to be exact, and I found him in May of 2008.

Unfortunately he's no longer with us.  During his short life in our refrigerator, he provided us with laugh out loud laughter - every time we opened the fridge.  We had lots of visitors during that time too.  Tator Dude was quite popular.

To see more pictures and find out more about Tator Dude from my original blog post, just click on him.  Go ahead, he won't mind.  Really.

Okay, if you don't want to touch him, here's the link:

WAIT!  If you want to find out what happened to Tator Dude, AFTER you read the blog post above, here's the final blog post:

Happy Friday!

"I am not obsessed with coffee"

Mark's Barista Station
Mark loves coffee.  Scratch that, he LIVES for coffee! In fact, it flows through his veins. Fresh bean coffee to be exact.  Me?  I grew up on (cough cough) Taster's Choice, as in instant coffee, and had it occasionally.  When Mark & I got together and he found out that I drank Taster's Choice, I had to use smelling salts and perform CPR.  He then explained to me what REAL coffee was.  After my first cup of his fresh ground crack, I broke it off with TC and never looked back.

We used to have just one coffee maker.  Actually we've gone through several over the years as they go through a lot of use.  You know, just a simple coffee maker for our morning jo, which then turned into evening jo on some nights (decaf for me, Mark can drink caffeine anytime).  Then Starbucks came along and, well need I explain?  To save money, Mark bought an espresso machine - I don't touch it, too strong for me!  So I rearranged my little spice corner for his money saving Barista Station.

Coffee Pot and Keurig Station
And then there was Keurig.  He really had to do a lot of explaining to me why on earth it was necessary for us to have yet another coffee maker on top of what we already had.  Seriously, he's obsessed with his coffee and he's corrupting me! (takes a sip of jo)

Mark's explanation goes like this: the regular coffee maker is perfect for our morning jo, but too much for an evening cup, and we can't waste good coffee.  If we make half a pot, it just doesn't taste right.  The Keurig is perfect for our evening jo or whenever we want just ONE cup of coffee (I don't dare suggest instant) plus there's decaf, variety of flavors and tea as well (he mentions how much I love tea).  Okay, so he was right - again. (makes note to buy more decaf)

Still think he's NOT obsessed?
Even though I have a couple cups of morning coffee and use the Keurig on some evenings and tea occasionally, I don't drink espresso.  So I'm not obsessed too, right?  Wait... oh my gosh... (looking at the corner of our kitchen) I need to re-evaluate this.

Peace,
Rocki

Aquatic Swirls vs Fish Hoops

I designed a pair of new hoop earring the other day and just love how they turned out!

True short story:

I always show Mark, who lovingly refers to my metalwork as "car parts", my new creations. Even though he claims to have no idea about jewelry, I enjoy hearing his perspective. Plus he likes to help name them.

Anyway, when Mark arrived home from work and got settled in (sort of), I showed him my new earrings. He said, and I quote: "hey, they look like fish!"

Okay. So I took another look at them and sure enough, yes, they do. However, we were NOT going to name them "Fish Hoops" - sick and wrong dude!

I took photos to post in my Rocki's Artisan Metal shop and, as always, showed Mark. He said, and I quote: "Looks like a fish on a hook."

Okay. You got me. So it does. But I'm still not naming them Fish Hoops.

Aquatic Swirls - I do not recommend putting them in water.

Peace & Luv,
Rocki

Friday Funny

Bobbitt Family Update:

In a recent news broadcast, it was announced that Lorena Bobbitt's sister Louella was arrested for an alleged attempt to perform the same act on her husband as her famous sister had done several years ago. Sources reveal the sister was not as accurate as Lorena.

She allegedly missed the target and stabbed her husband in the upper thigh causing severe muscle and tendon damage. The husband is reported to be in serious, but stable condition.

Louella has been charged with...

Name That Cloud

I've been meaning to post some pictures from our Florida trip in December, but... So I'll be posting a few of my favorites here and there.

Yep, that goofy gal is me driving my brothers boat while he co-captains. We had a total blast on that trip! It was the middle of December and we experienced rain, cold, sunshine and beautiful warm days. We'll be heading back there again in August for a whole week and I get to drive a BIGGER boat then!!

Okay, so now to the Name That Cloud. I love clouds, especially ones that resemble real life. Take a good look at the below picture and DO NOT scroll down yet. Can you make out what it looks like? Give it a few minutes and it will hit you.

So while we were visiting, we pretty much stayed in and on the water. So many beautiful places and beaches. Now that Chris has a bigger boat with cabin (and the all important bathroom!) we can travel even further into the ocean! Oh and he's going to teach me to drive that boat as well, that we have nick-named after me. He didn't actually name the boat "Rocki", but just for fun he did.

Oh yes... the cloud. Any clues yet? I have a couple other fun cloud pictures that I took on our trip, but will only post one of them because the other one is... well... let's just say it's on the nasty side! But we all got a good laugh out of THAT one!

As mentioned in my previous post, we're pondering moving to Florida. This is no joke, we are seriously looking into it as Mark & I are ready for a change. However, there are many factors right now that we have to consider first.
Cloud? Well? Any thoughts? I would love to say that the winner gets a pot of gold or "one meeeeeelion dollars" or a free shopping spree in my shop, but how would I know that you didn't cheat and take a peak at the below picture, hmmmm? ;) Okay... the moment of truth. Last chance before I disclose what it is! I'll give hints along the way as you slowly scroll down:

- animal

- large

- mammal

- hates mice

- loves peanuts

- grey (or gray, whichever you prefer ;)

- trunk

- zoo

Got it now?

Yep, it's an elephant! Come on, you can see it too, it's not pink! I'll post the other one next week - the clean one that is!

Happy Day!

Pretty Pink Flowers!

Okay. Yes, I like pink. I used to dislike pink actually, but as you can see that is now not the case.

Mark surprised me with these pretty pink flowers for my birthday! Maybe because they matched the pink in my hair perhaps? I just LOVE them! I mean, they are the prettiest pink flowers I've seen in a long time and I just had to take pictures of them.

Jeremy & Jason will just love me for taking this shot of the flowers - those are one of their high school pictures. I have TONS of pictures, as you could imagine. I also keep cards I receive, especially from my boys - Mark too of course! The ones on my dresser mirror from my boys are quite funny - they are such the comedians :) Oh and yes, that is "Rocky & Bullwinkle" in the background. Their hands are bound together as they are life partners... no, not in a kinky way - sheesh!

I know, this isn't about my pretty pink flowers, but my princess Sasha's tongue is pink! LOL! She likes to be on our bed when I do the laundry, to take naps, and watches me when I take pictures of my work. I don't know why, but whenever I get the camera and she hears the sound it makes when I turn it on, she's RIGHT THERE! This shot cracked me up - a total surprise because she was sitting still and as soon as I took the pic she yawned! Or maybe she's trying to tell me something?

That's it for today. I'm trying to get back into the blog world, but work is keeping me pretty busy. Speaking of, I need to head into the studio now.

Happy day everyone!

Happy Birthday to Me

I am now one year closer to my BIG birthday bash and I'm so very excited! Today I am 49 on paper and 20 something in life. Obviously, my BIG birthday bash next year will be the BIG 50.

Age truly is just a number and that's it. I feel that if you THINK you're old, then there you go... you're old. Think young and life will be a blast! You know, I don't even know what 49 feels like because I still feel young and will FOREVER be a kid. In fact, I'll be wearing jeans, tank tops and flip flops until the day I die. I've never given much thought about my age as it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Well, wait... okay so when I was just 16 years old, I had a crush on our Crystal bottle water delivery guy - he didn't know it, so I thought. He was probably around 20 something and I always made sure to be the one to answer the door when he dropped off the jugs of water. Oh and let me just say that I've always looked younger than my years (although they are catching up with me). So one day I guess my face said it all and he made the comment that I was probably only 12 years old. OUCH! That was the end of my crush.

Mark teases me about being older than him, robbing the cradle and all that, but come on hon... by 6 months and 10 days? He knows it doesn't bother me at all, but teases me all the same. You know hon, you're right behind me ;) I just love him to pieces! Oh and thank you hon for the hilarious birthday card - TOO FUNNY!

Well, just a short blog about my BIG upcoming birthday. Yes I know, I have a whole year to go, but why waste time? I'll enjoy every second of life and when the BIG day comes, watch out - I'm letting loose!

Happy day everyone!
Rocki

p.s. the picture was taken at the U2 concert in October. I dressed it up a little :) Oh and I have a 'slightly' different pixie hairstyle now more upbeat, funky and sassy with pink only in the front. It's so me.

A blonde calls her boyfriend and says, "Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get started."

Her boyfriend asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?"

The blonde says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster."

Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle.
She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table.

He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says,

"First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster."

He takes her hand and says, "Second, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then," he said with a deep sigh...

Driving Miss Sasha or "Ruff" - Pick it up Mom

Most of you know we have 3 four-legged kids right along side our 4 two-legged kids. Yogi, Maelyn & Sasha. Yes, I admit our 4-legged kids may be a tad spoiled and have just a "few" more toys than the boys, but they are all loved the same - no matter what the boys say.

Above we're coming back from the day spa - pet groomer that is. No they do not go to a day spa, that's just what I call it for fun. Sasha loves to drive, but we do not let her go out on her own - can't afford the insurance.

Sasha, a Yorkie Maltese, is our youngest and well, is our little Princess. Okay, and maybe just a smidgen more spoiled than the rest. She has a very sweet personality, lovable, is VERY smart, smiles a lot, loves to play, rough house around with Maelyn, can give some nasty looks if not pleased, and has the CUTEST little bark. In fact, it is a "ruff", a cute and adorable sounding "ruff". She also has me wrapped around her little paw. Just a smidgen that is.

Yes, I know, the pic above looks simply innocent. Well, I have to tell you it is NOT. I'll TRY to sum this up... All 3 of the kids get their lunch & snack "cookies" at the same time each day. Mainly because Sasha comes to get me either with her cute little "ruff", her loving look or simply whines to let me know it is their snack time - and to hustle.

After we go through our routine, they all take off with their snack in different directions - Sasha goes down the hall to the back bedroom, where a few times a week the cookie, I thought, falls out of her mouth and she waits for me to pick it up again so she can take it out of my hand. She won't pick it up otherwise. Well. I THOUGHT the cookie "accidentally" fell out.

One day I just happened to look up while Sasha was trotting off with her goods and "poof", she spit out the cookie! I was floored, shocked more like it! She did it on purpose! She turned around and looked at me as if to say, "well, come on mom, pick it up for me, you know the drill." Then she just looks at the cookie until I do. I had to laugh at this and then called Mark to tell him. He finally witnessed this for himself. It cracks me up still today and YES, she still does it.

Oh and about the "nasty" looks... this is one of them. We returned from the "day spa" one afternoon in which a bow was in her hair. Sasha does NOT like bows in her hair. Well, it was sticking straight up like Pebbles, from the Flintstones and all I could do was laugh, but kept telling her how cute she was. She didn't buy it. When we got home I finally removed the bow and she let me know how happy she was NOT.

Is this little girl loved? Most definitely. Are all our kids loved. That's a big 10-4. Is this little girl spoiled beyond belief and has mom (and dad too no matter what he says) wrapped around her little paw. Maybe just a smidgen.

"ruff, ruff, RUFF!" What's that Sasha? Oh I'm sorry, mommy's on her way!

Happy ruff Monday!

Thursday's Chuckle

This morning Mark sent me this little funny story that he received at work. It made me chuckle so thought I would pass it on. Besides, we could all use a little humor!

The Buttocks

A married couple was in a terrible accident where the man's face was severely burned.
The doctor told the husband that they could not graft any skin from his body because he was too skinny.
So the wife offered to donate some of her own skin.
However, the only skin on her body that was suitable would have to come from her buttocks.
The husband and wife both agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from and they requested the doctor also honor their secret.
After all, this was a very delicate matter.
After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the man's new face.
He looked more handsome than he ever had before!
All his friends and family went on and on about his youthful beauty.
One day, he was alone with his wife, and he was overcome with emotion at her sacrifice.
He said, "Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. How can I possibly repay you?"

"My darling," she replied, "I get all the thanks I ever need
every time I see your mother
kiss you on the cheek."

Tee hee hee,

This studs for you!

Yippie, yahoo and all that jazz - it's FRIDAY!!! That makes me a little giddy because it's been a long hard week for me - a good one mind you, but a very busy one and I'm looking forward to the weekend. Plus it's Jason's birthday, my youngest son, and we're celebrating at Mimi's Cafe.

Anyway, back to the studs. Helloooooo, I'm down here. HELLLooooooo? Eyes down here please...

I truly have SO much that I want to blog about, fun stuff, cute stuff and just chit-chat stuff, but as I mentioned, I've been quite happily busy. So, thought I would share another item that.... hello? (clears throat) HELLOOOOO?! I'm down HERE everyone... eyes down here now.

Sheesh.

Sweet Studs is what came to mind when... excuuuuuuuse me? Can you reach over to the scroll button and hop on down here for a minute? The stud above isn't even real - I mean, come on, look at him! Errrr, never mind, just follow me.

Now this stud is rather cute and adorable, but not exactly something I could add to my shop. I did have a Buckskin Mare and a Shetland pony growing up though.

Studs? Car parts, boy toys, found in drawers all over the house, "can't have too many tools", etc. Nope. These are not the studs I'm referring to either.

Um, ladies? You're drooling all over your keyboards. That's not pretty.

Awe. Here we are! My new Sweet Studs. Yes, I know, these are nothing new. A stud is a stud is a stud. EYES DOWN HERE PEOPLE!

I love studs and wear them in at least one of my ear holes, usually the top. Sometimes in all of them. These studs have a cute round shiny ball and.... the earring studs people, come on now, grow up!

I better end it here because this post is going south. Now STOP it you guys!

Happy Sweet Friday,

Chemical Element Cu

Bueller. Bueller... (work with me here. Have you seen the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off?)

Yes class, Cu is the symbol for Copper. Okay, school has been out a long time for me and I admit it - I had to look it up. But I honestly loved when we studied about Chemicals and their symbols in class.

Soooo, as you can see I've added a new metal to my shop. And what is is pray tell?

Put your hand down Petunia. Yes, I know you ALWAYS know the answer.

Class? Class? ClaaaaAAAAAssss!
(think Cheech and Chong here folks)

You guessed it. Copper! Pure natural copper.

I'll be creating several of my handcrafted findings that I already make (and then some) with Copper as well. It is so very pretty and can be as organic, rustic, southwestern or elegant as you want it to be. I did not realize how enjoyable it is to work with. Nice on my wrists and...

Johnny sit down and quit pulling Susie's pony tail!

Oh and yes, I'm playing around with different oxidizing techniques as well. Above is my Antiqued Finish and...

Barnaby! That is NOT where a test tube goes! Take that out of your nose right now young man!

Anyway, I have more oxidizing to play with and look forward to playing around with it.

Well, class is just about over and I'm turning gray here, so I'm going to dismiss class early and ....

Whoa!, watch out! Let me.... da du thump thump thump (being run over by students)

Happy Monday!

Friday Funny!

I'm sharing this funny joke with you, thanks to my sweet friend Deb.

A woman was sitting at a bar enjoying an after work cocktail with her girlfriends when Steven, a tall, exceptionally handsome, extremely sexy, middle-aged man entered.

He was so striking that the woman could not take her eyes off him.

This seasoned yet playful heartthrob, noticed her overly attentive stare and walked directly towards her (as any man would). Before she could offer her apologies for staring so rudely, he leaned over and whispered to her...

"I'll do anything, absolutely anything you want me to do, no matter how kinky, for $20, on one condition..."

Flabbergasted, but intrigued, the woman asked what the condition was. The man replied "you have to tell me what you want me to do in just three words."

The woman considered his proposition for a moment, then slowly pulled out a $20 bill from her purse, which she pressed into the man's hand with her address.

She looked deeply and passionately into his eyes, barely concealing her anticipation and excitement, and slowly and meaningfully said... "clean my house."

LOL! Love this one Deb - thank you!
Happy Friday everyone :)
